Personally, I'd like a fixed header and footer (always visible). Didn't see it mentioned.
And for me I think it's going to be tough to move my eyes across the page to see comment count. Would zebra-striping help?
Relating to zebra-striping, alternating colors are still hard to scan with sometimes on long lists. Would a three-shade (or four? or five?) zebra-stripe setup work artistically? And would it help with scanning across the page? I don't know.
