You should definitely focus on solid side projects. You don't have any prior experience as a developer so the only way to prove to someone that you can code is to show them.


Since she doesn't have a job in the industry, are they still called 'side projects'? I agree with the sentiment though, that she should focus on building a portfolio of code that she can use as evidence that she knows what she is doing.
