I had a similar issue in Chrome and a regular crash-to-desktop in the main game I was playing at the time (Divinity 2) on Windows 10 with a GTX 970. I also had major problems with YouTube.

My fix was to turn off all the Dynamic Clock and GPU Boost stuff in the NVIDIA control panel.
