The timeline is a history of the building, cool. And then suddenly there are events completed unrelated to the building as a structure. Come on, just why?

The reason why is obvious. Trump is a spiteful child driven by rage at the people who he hates. He exists to enrich himself and hurt others. None of his actions promote civic pride, social unity, or human flourishing.

It's been awhile since I've read it, but it does offer a similar approach in the sense that it's an easy read. Bret does a good job of making the various topics fun and interesting, even in areas I normally wouldn't be interested in.

As a side note, I've read some interesting critiques on Diamond's theories. But I did find the whole book to be an interesting perspective, even just thinking about things North America lacked such as animal husbandry that may have drastically changed the way it developed.

They did do one, but the US only slid into top spot somewhat recently it looks like?

Can avoid the hostility.

It's half a decade.

Went to a smaller company for a short time, than ended up at FAANGs.

Epic had some nice features and it was really cool working directly with nurses and doctors. But it has some churn issues and the software sucks to use, especially with Epic's insistence on "all software built in house". While a good marketing ploy, it results in reinventing crappier wheels.

as a long suffering user, it always seemed like an ancient enterprise app. Always have to log in through some horrible Citrix setup to use it too...

Chipping in as another Googler - agree that it is team-specific, but you generally can bring up development environments (in terms of what traffic is served, closed to the public, etc.), but these aren't actually run locally.

For chat yes, but not for video calls (and like others pointed out, some still avoid Slack depending on the user. Devs seem to universally use Slack thankfully)
