I try to be optimistic but don't extrapolate prematurely. The problem is not solar but storage and is not solved yet. I suppose the time will come that we will have to sacrifice part of the cheap solar energy to produce efuels or similar for our winters, transportation etc
That's interesting. It's one of a few studies that supports a mental functioning, if it's lifelong and of specific type, prevents nerve cell degeneration and dying. If the theory that mind inactivity causes dementia is true, it will revolutionise it's prevention with lifelong adult training. AI could help immensely in this field keeping the community mentally occupied. I am waiting for a solid study measuring that a stress free group (either due to personal or professional status) beats all the stressful ones. We know it happens but it's nice to have evidence. Which group has obviously less stress today?
Adapting to a fossil fuel free society damands to comply to some inconveniences, like to afford some days without or expensive electricity, to change the time of device use, even to be used to lower home temperatures. For me the most difficult part is to persuade my wife to comply. Fortunately I have solar/battery/netmetering and I only pay a small amount for the network use.
The first thing I do with any new phone is to enable developer mode. If it is weekend, I will use adb to sideload, if not, I will do it in next weekend as I don't have much time at workdays. In any case the sideloading will be done on the same day as now. Problem solved.
Amazing. When motivation meets innovation this is the result. Although a doctor, I cannot follow all the mechanisms. Cancer is a hard problem from the ground up (biology until engineering). You get ill and well multiple times before you or it wins. And the known therapy modalities remain the same since 2500 years (surgery, toxin, burn). Genetics failed loudly in this field. It's all statistics, prevention and luck. Hope all well to the guy.
Slovenia is 165km wide and 265km long so with 50lit gas tank your are out of the country. It's only the same day back and forth that is limited by this measure. It probably has nothing to do with energy saving or renewable push.
For me the greatest boost to advance European foreign language fluency was to learn for one year the Japanese. Because it dwarfs in complexity any Latin language, I was able to:
1) locate and focus at the difficult parts of each (eg English phrasal verbs, French accent, German grammar)
2) realise the huge similarity between euro languages and leverage it
