Good to see this one on the top of showhn. I see that you shared the same 2 days ago and the one before 8 days ago https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=23849221 what has changed since then?

My understanding is that this is acceptable practice. There's a lot of luck to a post reaching critical mass on HN, so if you happen to get lost in the noise, you can try again. Trying three times does not feel at all egregious to me. As long as you don't delete old submissions to hide what you're doing, I think that's in line with HN's rules.

One notable difference is that today is a weekend, which means there's less traffic on HN but also less competition to reach the front page.

By looks of it you seem to have misinterpreted my question. I never suggested it to be a bad practice but rather was curious if there’s was something changed to post it again, I certainly would.

Oh, sorry. I thought you were implying that OP was in the wrong for resubmitting a link that had been ignored previously and not changed since.

congrats! mind sharing your story?

Sure.

Last year June, I built a small online tool for me and my girlfriend to manage our IPTV playlist. I bought a domain name and put it online because our IPTV player needed to access it through a URL. A couple of months later, and 7 users found the tool and were actually using it (keep in mind that that's pretty impressive for a tool as not-user-focused as it was back then).

So I then decided to spend more time refining it. Building more features, introducing paid plans, and making sure everything worked as user-friendly as possible.

It basically all started growing organically from there. This month so far I have a Stripe balance of €620 (roughly 687USD) after fees, which is my 5th full month of running with pricing plans.

As you can imagine, I'm super excited to see if it can keep growing like this!

So it’s software people pay for to make managing their pirated tv content easier to browse?

IPTV is not necessarily pirated content. Many countries have commercial offerings although I don't know of any company doing so in North America.

What tech do you use? Really like your website btw, friendly, clean and clear

Thanks. It all runs on a Laravel codebase, and the SaaS part is handled by Laravel Spark. UI of the landing page is a template I bought, the dashboard is own tinkering.

It is awesome that you used Laravel! Have you needed to do any tweaks for performance?

cool. it gives me a lot of confidence to hear these stories :-) Where did you initially "advertised" (I don't mean paid) ?

That's the cool thing, it got its first users without any promotion what so ever. I had used it myself for a couple of months, and only after 2 months I logged into the database and saw these 7 users who simply found it (maybe by URL). They not only registered but were actually using it in the same was as I did.

After that, did post it on some forums, and on the IPTV subreddit, which did give it a boost.

But I have not been posting it anywhere for the last few months now, it seems that the steady flow of new users just keeps pretty constant no and the most active users are the ones who just find it through Google.

may be this is something you can find out and try to put in some more time there. This will improve your userbase. also +1 for organic growth

How you got your customers?

I've already started searching for other co-founder ( friends & Co.). I agree, raising money from the Users as a single co-founder can be a daunting task and even more for a Non-profit startup like mine. Henceforth, YC!

Past the demotivation, PG lists "single founder" as [one of]the top mistake that kills a startup.

"it's a vote of no confidence. It probably means the founder couldn't talk any of his friends into starting the company with him. that's pretty alarming"[1]

"Ideally you want between two and four founders. It would be hard to start with just one. One person would find the moral weight of starting a company hard to bear."[2]

There could be other reasons why a founder chose to be single. In my case, my other friends who were interested in joining as co-founders but, I chose not[include/work them] because they didn't had the same values as I imagine one should. for me, this is more important than their respective abilities.

Not having a cofounder is a sign that you are not making something people want.

The solution is to make something people want and get better at communicating that this is true.

its doable. Not enjoyable.

You go to "war" with the army you have not the army you want. if you want to get a new founder on board then start looking but I wouldnt delay today because of it.

If you are having second doubts. Then reevaluate. Ask why she left and get More feedback from others.

People will start joining when you least need them ( when you start becoming successful ). So I'd advance only if this is your vision for your contribution to this world.

My vision "Awethu" a non-profit startup is to use technology to help people from developing nations (such as mine) to solve their real-world problems, which in either case be expensive. i.e, create a "affordable" solution. And, it's been difficult for me to find co-founders who are as motivated as I am AND be seeking less or no profit out of it.
