The cpu is better but the software is worse and more bloated so they fight against each other

This sums up my entire experience with technology progress over the past 40 years.

40 years from now we won't be able to boot our device until an LLM codes the software on the fly for it. (Each time it boots, of course.)

The traditional expression of this idea is "What Andy giveth, Bill taketh away".

The names are different now, but they were always metonymic.

And of course, those of us in the Motorola/Apple ecosystem didn't have the same problems. :)

Ha this summarizes marketplace problems in one sentence. All items that are still available for sale are typically priced too high. The slices of market that actually moves a minuscule 1-5% of items and they don’t hang out for long

If items are comparable the lowest unsold item should be an upper bound on price, no?

Mission success, they got free advertising

Tax dollars

For some reason many manufacturers intentionally disable it at low speeds or won’t let it restart from stop. Super annoying and entirely unnecessary

I understand not restarting from a stop unprompted. There are simply too many situations on the road where automatically moving from a stop may be undesirable in case the driver isn't paying attention. Stop signs, four way stops, yield situations, probably more. Safer overall to make it an intentioned action by the driver.

I kind of get it but it reality sucks in bumper to bumper. But why cut off at 25mph? Like I can’t use it in a camera zone to maintain snail speed below the camera threshold

So you want to get AirPods banned everywhere… genius

I don't believe these facebook rayban / modern google glass things are banned everywhere, why would this one be?

Being smart isn’t enough need resources and need to deal with people

They never made sense to have but I’m sure someone made a huge career and got lots of bonuses for this initiative

John Mackey, the founder of Whole Foods, mentioned at the end of his autiobiography The Whole Story that that there wasn't much collaboration within the higher-ups at Amazon. From the gist of it, I wouldn't be surprised if the internal retail division was trying to outshine the Whole Foods division by throwing technology at everything, useful or not, because that's what Amazon corporate appreciates.

We need a Google replacement that’s actually regulated. Euro Google is the only way for that to happen

If you want regulations, try Baidu. They get rid of non-government-approved thoughts really quick.

The free speech absolutism rethoric from the USA is getting pretty old, especially since you don't practice it yourselves.

The unregulated monopoly that is google has really served us well too. Instead of non-government-approved thoughts we get SEO slop, sponsored links, AI overviews, mass data collection, listicles, and unhelpful search results. Seems like both extremes aren’t good right? Maybe don’t be disingenuous?

Just buy a MacBook. The value is far And above comparable windows computers

Seems like a huge waste of resources hunting down rich peoples art for little gain
