What you are describing is bait-and-switch, which is unethical, in retail, illegal, and will result in long-term irreversible audience atrophy. Selling keeping in touch with friends and family and delivering clickbait is not a sustainable strategy.
That's a big experiment. That's like google saying, hey let's make search crap and see how long we can coast before that becomes a systemic issue for us. hmmmmm
