I don't understand this article and at the end I'm still wondering why is Mac OS Linux done right.

What are the 'broken' things about Ubuntu and how is Mac OS fixing them? How is Mac OS helping you be more productive? The author lists programs for every task like somehow they (or something similar) are not available for Linux. (Almost) everything you listed there has a Linux flavor.

>Stuff like mysql and mongo [...] should go into a VM of ubuntu or what not.

Oh.

>Break down the video into smaller bite sized chunks to provide for natural breaks.

I agree with this. Find a natural stopping point if you can or just make the videos smaller regardless. ~15 min is OK IMHO.

>forces to log in to Google to install chrome extensions

Is there a legitimate reason for this?

It's more that you can install "extensions" just fine, but need to be logged in to get "web apps". In reality, both are Chrome ran code, but there's the distinction there. You can however install basic extensions like adblock or ghostery without logging into Chrome.

(It won't help you on the anonymity standpoint of course, because every Chrome has unique id that's recorded when you log into any google service)

It's the "we require login to access any google docs documents if you use chrome, but don't need it if you use other browser" that's more annoying than web apps in my opinions.

Yes, some extensions use identity API's.

Actually many who should have paid $39.99 didn't, and instead paid only $14.99. The reason is that the form which asks you about your supposedly "new" notebook purchased can be completed with fake info's and you would instantly get the discount code in your email. I know this because there were talks about it on many forums.

It's not fixed here (EU).

> google is starting to lose people's trust

What indications tell you that Google is loosing people's trust, besides your own ?

Google is the next Microsoft.

Great post. I especially like the last two paragraphs.

Does anyone else think reputation "points" don't necessarily indicate the level of expertise a programmer has ? I've seen profiles of programmers on SO where they asked to vote their questions so they could receive a certain badge that is very rare to acquire. I don't think it should be like this. SO is still a great resource but I just don't agree with some of the things they do and how they do them. I can also confirm that some moderators are condescending.

Looks great. I wish there was a screensaver like this with the current time.

What do you think its more portable and powerful that, or an ultraportable such as macbook air ?
