So the lack of consideration for the load testing was the part of that post that stood out to you?

If new features in any product/service aren't defaulted to 'on', no one will ever use any of them. Normal people don't change settings. As long as you're notified of the change (which Disqus did through email and blog posts) and it's not a privacy concern, I think 99% of companies will and should do exactly what they did in this situation.

Just relistened. Yeah the last 2 minutes sounded like typical Gruber, but the last 10 seconds do have an extra bit of awkwardness now with this news. Who knows.

Wow. So many people with an ungodly number of open tabs. Think you guys need to check out Instapaper and a bookmarking service such as Diigo. You'll be much happier and both you and your computer will be much more productive.

It's Apple's platform, they can do what they want with it. The market (including consumers, developers, and entrepreneurs) will decide whether their rules are good things or bad things. Long term, if Apple doesn't continue to foster development on its platform the developers will leave and then (eventually) the customers will follow.

As long as Apple doesn't have a monopoly I agree with you. It should be left up to the consumer marketplace to punish or reward this behavior. Thanks to Android there are options.

I actually got rid of a bunch of 3.5" floppies I had in the back room of my house this weekend. Despite feeling pretty silly about it, I still took the time to make sure to actually tear them up rather than just dump them in the trash. Who knows what 1.44MB of data could do from my 1997 MS Money file.

There is a circle jerk joke in here somewhere I know it.

Making circles is way more intuitive than Facebook groups or Twitter lists, so yes, I could see my parents being able to make a Google+ circle.

Exactly. I don't want the people I was forced to add out of workplace social norms to know they're in a "Work - Others" group that gets to hardly see anything I do.

These are MY social circles, why should they have to be relevant to anyone other than me.

You know, it didn't dawn on me until just now where the name circles come from.

Thanks. That was a very helpful explanation.
