this looks exciting. We are allowed to choose between Windows, macOS and Linu at my job so I might consider this when we are due for an upgrade in a year or 2. Feels wrong to discard our M2 Pro machines when they are perfectly capable of my relatively minuscule workloads at the moment, it only slowed down once when I had a memory leak in Safari from a AWS tab
I'd bet a bunch of money that it's barely used anymore.
Only benefit of trackpoint nowadays is that you don't move your hand. Otherwise, it's all downsides compared to modern trackpads, especially haptic ones like here. It's less precise, less ergonomic. Nowadays I'd rather move my hand a few centimeters off, than put regular strain on my forearm and struggle being precise with the pointer.
And most thinkpad users, employees of big companies, don't care at all about the trackpoint. I'm pretty sure it's only kept for the thinkpad brand and to keep the vocal minority of us geeks pleased.
I can tell you I use the mouse on my Thinkpad far more than on any other device I've used, all because it's frictionless and doesn't require me to move my hand.
I do too. But I'm starting to get some pain in my index finger, so I think it's probably time for me to move on. I hear Framework is shipping to my country now...
I agree the discomfort, or after a while, even the pain when using the trackpoint, is something very noticeable on modern thinkpads. I don't recall being this annoyed with the older thinkpads like T61, x200 and all. Or maybe we are just getting old and more fragile haha
Named after the Super Dimension Fortress from the Macross anime series. If you like mecha i recommend checking out the original series (it might look dated in some regards but still worth a watch. And the Do You Remember Love is a must watch after you finished the series, a grandiose animated spectacle, one of the most impressive animated films I've seen)
If you are not feeling like watching a long series, I recommend checking out Macross Plus, from the author of Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo
The series is known as Robotech in the USA. The original series is not available legally in the USA to my knowledge but should be available on Japanese blu rays with english subtitles or on your favorite Linux ISO sharing website. The rest of the entries are on Disney+ or the aforementioned websites.
I first saw it when I was 10 in 1985 and it changed my life. I never knew that "cartoons" could be so serious. Lisa Hayes was such an incredible character. I didn't really know what anime was until I went to college and then I learned what Robotech really was and how it was created.
Thank you for mentioning those! I saw both Robotech and Macross Plus (in French) when I was a teenager. I still think about the SDF more often I would admit and the soundtrack is a regular occurrence in my work playlist :)
author_id is for discord UserIDs, and the no token is most likely because you didn't create an account. Account creation is free but limited use, 50 results cap and won't show information dating more than 1 month old.
I was greatly disappointed to learn back in 2020 that PS5 didn't even support themes. The only customization it offers is disabling / enabling sound and changing a background to a screenshot for one of the menu items which is a dashboard (with customizable widgets at least) with your friends' activities, new store arrivals or whatever you choose.
Changing to an appropriate theme when there were holidays or when I beat a good game that stays in my mind was something that I didn't know I would miss once switching to a new generation.
It does now have a limited set of themes based on previous consoles. Initially a 40th anniversary special feature that ended up sticking. But yeah, it’s a bit odd we’ve gone from Sony providing the tools to make your own theme with the PS3 to basically nothing with the PS5.
oh yeah, it turns out I even had one of these themes enabled (PS3 one). I got so used to it I forgot it's not how the console usually looks. Still a far cry from custom icons and animated backgrounds
I find it amusing or maybe even confusing that the developers seem to be changing the TUI look every month or so. Sometimes I go for 2 weeks without vibing cause I am working on something that doesn't involve coding or whatever and then I open gemini-cli only to be greeted with an update and a new UI
